When I was young I used to be quite minimalist in choosing my outfits, kind of boring actually: blue, grey and brown, no glitter, no sequins, no lurex nor gold or silver, no feather nor fur, and so on…
But this is the way almost every young woman is as long as she cares about other people’s judgement. Then you grow older and “develop your own personal flair” which basically is a nice way to say that you couldn’t care less about other people’s opinion.

It goes without saying that, after hitting my ’40s, I discovered I had kind of a penchant for all the oddish stuff mentioned above. That being stated, you can probably imagine what happened the first time I saw the FW2015 Dior’s collection sporting those incredible, funny, outrageous, over the knee vinyl boots. My heart missed a beat and a desperate lust for Dior’s boots rose in me. Literally.

Now the point is: how much are the Dior’s boots? I didn’t dare ask, but the ankle boot version is  approx 1,3k CH (round 1,21k € 1,33k USD) so I’d say that twice as much is an educated guess.

And then: as a stay-at-home mum living between Lugano and Milano, on how many occasions do I reasonably think I’ll have the chance to wear my new Dior’s vinyl, over the knee, bold boots? Less than half a dozen if I’m lucky? So, do they really worth the trouble at all?

You know, in Italy we tend to be quite reluctant when it comes to spending an offensive amount of money on a whim… it depends on our Catholic lagacy,  I guess. 😕

To tell the true – even for lack of suitable occasions – if I had had the money I would have bought them, but I didn’t so I was spared the conundrum, so to speak.

At the end of the day – I thought – they’re just a divertissement, a pair of hyper chic kinky boots… And – BAM! – I had a brainwave!

Remember the Broadway musical “kinky boots”? The story is about a guy who inherits an almost bankrupt shoe factory from his father, forms an unlikely partnership with a drag queen and rescues the business by producing a line of high-heeled boots for drag queens.

Well, I searched the web for “drag queen fetish boots”.

And I discovered a new world.

Of course I went through some of the most obnoxious things I’ve seen in my life (and it is an experience I strongly recommend if you happen to feel blue: it definitely cheers you up), but eventually I bumped into www.shoechic.it and found those black boots I posted after the picture of the Dior’s.

Now, it’s crystal clear that there’s a HUGE difference between the Dior’s boots and mine: it’s soft stretch leather (apparently the glossy finish that makes the leather look like vinyl is a patent of theirs) perfectly fitting the line of the legs against mere zipped vinyl, tapered coloured plexiglass heels against chunk vinyl heels, the shape is more sleek and elegant, completely different hence… but the same applies for the price: 88.5€ delivery included! As my husband said, “you don’t even get the plexiglass heel for that money”.

Of course you have to take out the most polished and plain clothes you have to go with them, they’re bold enough in themselves, but they definitely do the job and for 88.5€ get your money’s worth.

they also come in siver, gold and other bright glossy colours
